During this week’s Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Deep Silver took home the gold prize in the Internet Film category.

The CGI trailer for Dead Island, which caused a stir when it went viral back in February, won the Gold Lion award for a videogame-related campaign.

“Receiving a Golden Lion at Cannes is a great honour for Deep Silver. The public response since the reveal of the game with this trailer was truly extraordinary,” said Deep Silver international marketing director Georg Larch, “but it’s also fantastic that the trailer’s creativity has been given this accolade by the jury of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and that it could stand up against such strong competition,”

“We also want to thank Axis Productions for their outstanding collaboration in the creation of this trailer.”

The award-winning trailer plays out in reverse, depicting a young girl falling up through the air, through a window – which un-smashes as she passes through it – and into a room full of attacking zombies – all to a calm instrumental score by Giles Lamb.

Dead Island is due for release September 9, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
