Anyone who’s ever built with Lego will no doubt be familiar with the risks involved, with plenty a story of epic builds coming to an abrupt end thanks to one wrong move. Well it may be some comfort to know that the same can be said for builds in Lego Fortnite as well – as one unlucky player found out the hard way.

Over on the Lego Fortnite subreddit, a user by the name of BlazexStorm shared a video of how one small mistake ended up costing them their entire village in the most spectacular way possible. They were building a second layer on top of their existing level ten village with their squad, having already completed a layer that swept across a massive portion of their map and above a good number of buildings. However as they were putting the finishing touches to their roof, they decided to get rid of a flight of stairs to reposition it. Alas, it turned out this one flight was actually supporting the entire structure, which saw the roof above promptly collapse to the buildings below in spectacular fashion.

You can almost hear the music from Platoon playing in your mind as the footage continues, with BlazexStorm watching helplessly as hours of work is destroyed in seconds. It’s incredibly cinematic timing too, as the player realises what’s happening after the first few cracks, then glides away to safety as they stare in disbelief at the entire structure of bricks comes collapsing down. The single word spoken at the end of the video pretty much sums up how we’d feel too if we’d just watch hours of work come to such an end.

Reactions to the video are, of course, a mix between sympathy and barely contained laughter at the unfortunate series of events. “I’m sorry, but this is one of the funniest Lego Fortnite videos I’ve ever seen. Showed my kids, they were awestruck the entire time!” says Pinebanana. “Goddamn, this is painful to watch,” adds jameswonglife. Some are also impressed with the game’s physics allowing for such scenes of destruction. “The physics of the game are definitely causing problems,” says Leenol. “And as sad as this is, it does look awesome, lol.”
