Developer Night School Studio has announced that Oxenfree II: Lost Signals will be coming to PlayStation consoles on in addition to its previously-announced PC and Nintendo Switch versions.
A post on the PlayStation Blog also offered us some more insight into the game’s story. Previously introduced protagonist Riley Poverly is said to be some degree older than the teenage heroes of the original Oxenfree. In this sequel, she’ll be “grappling with the repercussions of post-adolescence”. After “a recent change” she decides to relocate back to her former hometown to take an entry level job as an environmental researcher in Camena.
However, she’s not picked the best time to return home, thanks to unnaturally occurring electromagnetic waves interfering with the town’s electronics. As one of several researchers tasked with investigating the phenomena, Riley will start off planting transmitters in prescribed areas to try and locate the source of these waves. Needless to say, things quickly take a turn for the weird pretty soon after.
Of course, there’s more to it than that, but for now Night School Studio is keeping most of their cards to their chest. Lead Writer Adam Hines does tease an old mining town, time travel and something called Time Tears, so it looks like there’ll be plenty to discover when the game launches.
There’s still no release date for the game yet, but Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is in development for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC. In case you missed it the first time around, check out the reveal trailer below.
