Released last month, the RTX 4080 price is looking anything but stable ahead of AMD’s imminent release of the RX 7900 XT & RX 7900 XTX.

As the long-standing fight continues between Nvidia and AMD for top spot, Nvidia claims the price drop has nothing to do with AMD massively undercutting them in price. Currently, the RTX 4080 costs upwards of $1,500. That’s at least half as grand more than AMD’s RX 7900 XT & XTX priced at friendlier $899 and $999.

So, what’s Nvidia comeback? And will it be worth it?

RTX 4080 price – will the RTX 4080 drop in price?

All the signs we’re seeing are telling us yes. RTX 4080 sales have performed sluggishly in comparison to its flagship sibling, the RTX 4090. And that’s still after the nightmarish chaos Nvidia had to face what with melting connector cables and stock shortages for the 4090.

It’s now looking like Nvidia will drop the price on the RTX 4080 graphics card in order to stay in competition with AMD.

We’re still yet to learn the full story – which might not see price drops for global markets. Whatever the news though, we’ll be delivering it right here so be sure to check back here soon for the update.

RTX 4080 costs upwards of £1,489 in the UK

Nvidia’s MRSP of $1,199 / £1,269 has recently seen some crafty adjustments by third party vendors who are pricing their cards with extremes between £1,449 – £1,489.

Listed on LaptopsDirect by Palit, the Palit GeForce RTX 4080 GameRock OC 16GB Graphics Card is costing a price closer to the MSRP of the RTX 4090 than its own.

The release of Nvidia’s RTX 4080 is looking to be tentative – the melting pin connectors and high prices are setting the release up for controversy, which could act to drive away potential customers.

That being said, there’s also prices listed on Newegg that stay true to Nvidia’s asking MSRP.

Only $0.99 above the MSRP, it’s looking like customers will be facing huge disparities in the asking prices of third party 4080s this year.

Nvidia RTX 4080 (US)

Nvidia RTX 4080 – 16GB GDDR6X – 2.51GHz

Officially confirmed by Nvidia, we’re expecting to see the RTX 4080 cost the following prices in the US & UK.

This information comes after the announcement that Nvidia were ‘unlaunching’ the RTX 4080 12GB, which means that there’s only one variant of the 4080 released this year, meaning we could see a tighter market pressurising higher prices on the RTX 4080.

Will the price of the RTX 4080 increase after release?

Though we’ve already seen the cryptocurrency world crash and Ethereum’s move away from mining, we’re still likely to see price gougers scalping prices to extortionate levels. In fact, we’re already seeing it with the RTX 4090 which resellers are listing at prices almost $700 to $1000 above the MSRP.

However, now that AMD’s 7000 series is close to launch, the RTX 4080 is potentially receiving a price cut just to stay competitive. Our advice is to keep an eye on the GPU prices closely in the next few weeks.

Will the RTX 4080 be expensive?

The RTX 4080 has seen high prices thanks to scalpers and Nvidia’s ruthlessly high prices.

We don’t think these prices are likely to go down any time soon, however the upcoming release of the RX 7900 XTX & RX 7900 XT might offer you a better entry point to top level performance GPUs.
