The creator behind Sony-exclusives Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian has confirmed he is working on a brand new game.

Fumito Ueda dropped the news during a chinwag with Japanese gaming bible, Famitsu (via Gematsu), where he revealed the team at genDESIGN is busy prototyping the new project. It's also not a sequel to any of his existing games.

'We’re in a stage of various trials,' said Ueda-san, saying the company is 'actually making our ideas to test if they’re interesting or not.'

He also revealed that the mystery title is receiving backing from Kowloon Nights, and said 'what we’re making now doesn’t feel like an indie game.' In fact, it seems Ueda is aiming for something similar to The Last Guardian in terms of scale.

'We’re ultimately aiming for something on the scale of Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian […] If larger-scale development becomes of interest to us, then I think we will significantly expand our development system and take it to a large-scale development team to make it a big game,' he said.

The Last Guardian was released exclusively on PlayStation 4 in December 2016, and was in development for almost a decade due to various hiccups during its production. At one point, the title was billed as a PS3-exclusive before work shifted to Sony's latest console.

Meanwhile, Shadow of the Colossus received a full-blown remake for PS4 earlier this year.
